TO BE THE MOST POSSIBLE ON CHILDREN SIDE

The reflections on educational space, on its potentialities and specifities, have been, mainly in the recent years, object of many studies and theories elaboration. The most recent let us thinking that child has got a very huge esthetical sensibility, a great competence on space uses and that, since his early childhood, he can elaborate relational strategies that, developing in the play – time, sustain his own growing and knowing processes. That’s why spaces destinated for the most part of the day to welcome young children should offer a line of furniture which can give a concrete answer nearer to their play, discovery and relational needs. The purpose is to create harmonious spaces, where colours and shapes interact to realise stimulating environments into which positive life experiences can take place. Since his earliest childhood, the child must and wants to be active, undisputed protagonist of the educative process. So, let’s propose him, furniture that can stimulate and guide toward independence; furniture that, because of their dimensions and shapes would invite him to choose, to act, to use space in an intelligent and constructive way; furniture that can give him the possibility to invent, that could be handy and easily movable, always creating new and rich arrangements. Each furniture, each fitting must respond to precise functionality, practicality, hygiene security but also aesthetical criteria, in one word “ to be the most possible on children side” understanding and developing their life exigencies with solutions which could satisfy solid / functional, light / longlasting, coloured but not noisy requirements. Furnishing built for children fit the environment out and give him precise and well identifiable features. A particular attention should be given to colour because colours are codes with which children start to communicate. Light colours like blue, green, yellow are to be considered for big surfaces; but also stronger colours could be used to enrich the different elements in a sort of palette that educators can rightly combine creating pleasant and joyful matchings. Also shapes and dimension should be adequate to their young age and to their growing capacities. Cluttering and insecure objects dequalificate also the educational purpose and vanify developing and learning purposes. If adults can confide in furniture, as it was another “educator” , the whole proposal quality is favourited too.
